End Poverty Now

HISTORY

A humble beginning

Imagine a few people sitting in a room at McGill University: young, idealistic, and ready to do something. This is how it all started. Technically it was the spring of 2006, but Montreal still felt like winter. Huddled in a small room in the Leacock Building - End Poverty Now found it beginnings.

Growth

After months of research, presentations, and negotiating, the End Poverty Now vision was finally constructed. The founders set out to create an organisation that was focused on three fundamental pillars: grassroots projects, education, and, what was later dubbed, InReach. We wanted to involve everyone in the poverty-alleviation struggle and educate people (from a non-political and non-partisan perspective), and most-importantly, we wanted to make a difference on the ground - with the people who really needed it. Over time, our team began to grow - with incredible people jumping on board to make this beautiful dream a reality. The overall appeal of the organisation continued to grow, and we started to recruit the young and supple minds of McGill University students.

On August 21st 2006, the End Poverty Now Society officially became a registered non-profit organisation in Canada - solidifying our Canadian NGO status. Over the coming months, End Poverty Now started to recruit more and more staff members. Everyone on the End Poverty Now team works towards the betterment of humanity; we all work for the alleviation of global and local poverty. As our vision grew, End Poverty Now started to recruit more people from around the country and the world. The organisation no longer consisted of only students and young people. While still driven by the passion of youth energy, End Poverty Now was starting to reach out to all Canadians. On December 11th 2007, End Poverty Now became a registered charity in Canada. Finally, the organisation was truly established.
